Plant now! Be an Annapolis Valley Giant Vegetable Grower Champion for 2010

ENTER YOUR VEGETABLE, PUMPKIN OR SQUASH

IN THE

2ND ANNUAL AVGVG GIGANTIC VEGETABLE WEIGH OFF

AT GLAD GARDENS (Highway#1 west of Waterville)

SEPTEMBER 25TH FROM 10:00 TO 4:00



Vegetable entries will accepted in the following categories: heaviest -giant pumpkin, giant squash, tomato, watermelon, field pumpkin, beet, radish, onion and longest carrot, tallest sunflower, tallest corn, largest sunflower head, longest gourd, and an open vegetable class for vegetables not normally listed.


AVGVG Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place finishes.


The children’s (under 16) weigh off will be held in all categories where entries are received.


Please only two official entries per family. Complete rules can be found on the AVGVG website

February Meeting

( Jeff Reid will be discussing Soil Analysis )

The meeting place for our Open meeting on Sunday, February 21st at 7.00 pm and future monthly meetings is at the Old Town Hall building on Commercial Street, in Berwick, it is also the RCMP station .The room is upstairs, when you drive in it's the first door on the side.

The Executive committee will meet Prior to the Open Meeting at 6.30 pm.

AVGVG AGM

AVGVG Weigh off 

The Annapolis Valley Giant Vegetable Growers had their 1st annual weigh off, held at Glad Gardens in Waterville Nova Scotia. Special thanks go to the Dill family for the use of their scale. This weigh off serves as a warm up to the Windsor weigh off and gives our members an opportunity to showcase the fruits of their labor which may otherwise go unnoticed.  A Sub Gallery of pictures has been added to the Gallery page.

AVGVG Weigh-Off & Giant Vegetable Show

The AVGVG Weigh-Off & Giant Vegetable show will be held this year at Glad Gardens Waterville ( Highway 1) on Thursday September 24th at 12.00 noon. There is an opportunity for growers to bring their produce on the evening of the 23rd at 7.00pm to Glad Gardens, if they can't attend the show. This show is being held in conjunction with the Annapolis Valley Pumpkin Festival. High level Media coverage is expected. The AVGVG will be holding a BBQ, a 50/50 Draw, and a Seed sale, as fund raisers at the show. Please make every effort you can to attend.

Next AVGVG Meeting (Date Changed)

 Monday 21st September 7.00pm at Tom Corkums place near Berwick. This meeting will be discussing the Weigh-off on the 24th Sept. Please try to attend this meeting, as we need as many helpers as we can get at the weigh-off

The Dill Family

In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the world of giant vegetable growing and to their valuable support to the cultural infrastructure of Nova Scotia, The Dill Family have been awarded lifetime honorary membership to the AVGVG.

AVGVG BBQ

At Tom Curkums place Saturday 18th of July, 5 pm, All Members welcome! Rumour has it that a world record holder might be attending ! 

The next meeting is at Tom Corkums place on the 24th of June, everyone needs to be there if at all possible!

The next meeting is open to Members and Non Members.

Shelly MacInnis of Cavindish Agri Services will be speaking and answering questions on soil analysis including interpreting the results of your soil samples. This is a wonderful opportunity to get the in depth information needed to produce giants. Anyone is welcome to attend. The Meeting is at Tom Corkums place near Berwick ( email anyone on the contacts page for directions) it will be held on April 19th @ 7.00 pm.

GVGO Newsletter

Phil Hunt of the GVGO generously offered the AVGVG a space in their next Newsletter to promote our Club. Andy Hamilton ( Secretary ) has submitted an article that will appear when the next GVGO newsletter comes out.
